SEEDING DEADLINE: May 9, 2012 by 5:00 p.m.
GENERAL TOURNAMENT GUIDELINES: See RULES/REGULATIONS page
QUALIFIERS: State tournament team qualifiers may be comprised of the same or opposite gender participants and will be the best eight teams based on their regular season modified USGA nine hole index. Eighteen hole matches will be scored as two nine hole matches. Nine hole indexes for NC and SC may be found on the www.carolinasgolf.org website. A team member or individual entry must have competed in a minimum of four contests on four separate dates during the regular season. In computing the modified USGA handicap index each team or individual entry will count its ten best rounds during the regular season. All 18 hole matches must be computed in 9 hole equivalents. Note: During the regular season, a “Par Plus 5" rule is in effect for qualifying scores. If a player reaches 5 over par on any hole, he/she may record that score. However, in the state tournament, every hole is played until the ball is holed out. Additionally, the best nine individual golfers whose modified USGA regular season index is 5 or under and who are not on a qualifying team will be selected to compete for state tournament individual honors. Individuals are obligated to accept the tournament invitation. During the season, match scores must be faxed to the Sport Chair by the end of each week. Any team failing to report their score as indicated above will forfeit their opportunity to participate in the state play-offs. NO SCORES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE ENTRY DEADLINE.
ENTRY FEE: The entry fee for team and individual participants will be that amount established at the site of the tournament.
NCISAA SUBSIDY: Each school will be reimbursed for participation in the state tournament using the following formula: $1,000 divided by the number of participants per school in each of the three classifications. The Sport Manager will be responsible for forwarding the necessary information to the Business Manager who will issue the checks.
STARTING TIMES AND PAIRING: Starting times will be assigned by the Sport Chair/Site Director.
1A/2A/3A: The tournaments will consist of a 2 day, 36 hole format. On the first day, teams who are in first, second, third, and fourth places by team handicap index will tee off together. Teams in fifth through eighth places will tee off together, and the players who are competing as individuals will tee off last. Coaches may substitute players at the start of rounds one or two as long as all players on the team have met all NCISAA requirements for participation.
On the second day, the teams in first through fourth places will tee off together with the higher scores going off earliest, and the teams in fifth through eights will tee off together. On the second day, the individuals tee off first.
RULES: USGA rules will prevail except where modified and approved by the Sport Manager. Rulings, if necessary, will be made by the host professional. Caddies are prohibited with the exception of those necessary for physically handicapped persons. Players are permitted to use electronic measuring devices that measure yardage only.
In an attempt to standardize the modified USGA indexing, both boys and girls must play from tees ranging from a minimum of 6100 to a maximum of 6700 yards during the regular and post season on courses already rated by the USGA.
The local pro and/or CGA official will be the final authority on all rules interpretations; in case of any question during play, a second ball will be played, and the local pro will rule on the question. All playing rules will be provided to each player before the tournament play begins.
Team scores will be determined by the four lowest scoring players per team.
PLEASE NOTE: In case of tie, all six team members will go into sudden death play. The lowest four scorers on the team will then count. In case of tie for State Medalist, players will go into a sudden death play-off starting on the first play-off hole.
During regular season matches if players are allowed to improve their lie, the following procedure must be used. A player may lift, clean and place his/her ball one club length - no closer to the hole - in the fairway only of the hole being played. All other local rules apply.
3A ALL STATE SELECTIONS will be based on the ten best regular season indices which account for 50% of all state selection and the two tournament rounds each valued at 25%. The sum of these scores will be combined to determine a player’s seasonal index.
ADMISSION: Unless otherwise specified, admission for NCISAA play-off events is $7.00 per adult and $5.00 per NCISAA student. Children under the age of eight will be admitted free. 100% of gate receipts, after approved expenses, are due the NCISAA.
